Hatesphere is a Danish thrash metal band that started in Aarhus in 2000, founded by guitarist Peter "Pepe" Hansen. The group built a following across Europe with their first three albums—Hatesphere, Bloodred Hatred, and Ballet of the Brute. They toured Europe alongside The Haunted in 2003 and Exodus in 2004, and played major festivals like Wacken Open Air, With Full Force, and Hellfest. In 2005, they signed with SPV and worked with Danish producers Tommy Hansen, Jacob Hansen, and Tue Madsen on *The Sickness Within*, which received strong reviews. That album led to tours with Kreator, Morbid Angel, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity, and Chimaira, as well as headlining shows and festival appearances at Wacken, Metal Camp, and Roskilde.
Hatesphere expanded internationally by touring Japan, co-headlining the UK with Gojira, and headlining the first Danish Dynamite tour with Raunchy and Volbeat. They became the first Danish band to tour China. After releasing *Serpent Smiles and Killer Eyes* in 2007, they headlined Europe with Aborted and Dagoba, played Wacken and Roskilde again, and supported Behemoth in Poland. That album reached number 26 on the Danish charts. Soon after, vocalist Jacob Bredahl left amicably to focus on other projects. The band brought in Joller Albrechtsen at the 2007 Danish Metal Awards, and this lineup co-headlined a European tour with Dismember.
In November 2008, Hatesphere recorded *To the Nines* at Antfarm Studios with producer Tue Madsen, finishing in under a month, and released it through Napalm Records. In February 2010, Albrechtsen left, and Morten "Kruge" Madsen filled in for a North American tour with The Black Dahlia Murder, Obscura, and Augury. By July 2010, Esben "Esse" Hansen (from As We Fight) became the permanent vocalist. Bassist Mixen Lindberg also left, with former bassist Mikael Ehlert temporarily replacing him for the rest of 2010. The band toured the US and Canada from September to November 2010 supporting Nevermore and Parasite Inc. In May 2011, Jimmy Nedergaard joined on bass. The album *The Great Bludgeoning* came out on 23 September 2011.
